Botox: It’s Not JUST for Wrinkles

Botox is the gold standard for wrinkle reduction, we all know this. ;)  BUT, did you know its precise application at various depths and regions across the face still makes it one of the most versatile (and easy!) anti-aging treatments in our toolbox? Read on for a sampling of results you can expect when a trusted injector truly understands facial anatomy and how to manipulate Botox in all the right ways…

Microbotox

A sprinkle of tiny botox injections, just below the skin’s surface, helps treat fine lines, uneven texture, excess oil production, and enlarged pores.

DAO (Mouth Corners)

The DAO muscle pulls down the corners of the mouth and the jowl area. Botox injections in this area can relax the muscle enough to prevent a ‘resting sad face’ and help to decrease sagging in the jowl area.

    Masseters (Chewing Muscle)

Botox can be used to slim down a bulky masseter muscle, creating facial slimming. This easy treatment also helps relieve facial tension and teeth grinding.

      Lip Flip

Helps to relax the thin muscle around the mouth and subtly turns out a bit more of the top lip when smiling, making it look more naturally pouty. It can also be used to soften a gummy smile depending on the presentation, and can even minimize perioral wrinkles (often called smoker’s lines).

        Gummy Smile

Relaxing the LLSAN muscle (Levator labii superioris alaeque nasalis) with a little Botox near the nostrils of the nose can help to decrease a gummy smile caused by excessive muscle tension here.

          Brow Lift

Botox relaxes specific facial muscles that normally pull the eyebrows down, therefore allowing the lifting muscles to take over. Injections on the inner and outer brow are a great way to achieve a non-surgical brow lift. With just a few injections and in just a few minutes, the procedure can help subtly lift the brow and refresh the look of the eyes.

            Mentalis (Chin)

The puckering or dimpling of the skin overlying the chin can be greatly minimized with Botox in this area. This treatment can also soften a deep chin crease and lengthen the chin which can improve the jawline and overall facial shape.

              Platysmal bands (Neck)

These are the vertical bands of muscle that “pop” out of your neck when speaking or grimacing. Many of us don’t notice these bands until our 30s or 40s because these muscles actually increase in strength as we get older. As our skin thins from loss of collagen, they then become more visible. Since the direction of their pull is downward, using Botox to relax the bands here can improve jawline definition, minimize jowls and even decrease crepey skin of the neck.

                Hyperhidrosis

Due to the effect of Botox on sweat glands, it can be used to decrease excessive perspiration of the hands, feet or under arms. Results can last 6-12 months!

                  Prevention! Prevention! Prevention!

By relaxing the muscles, Botox helps to prevent the creation of resting (also referred to as static) fine lines and wrinkles. It’s those resting lines that eventually make us look more aged and tired. Most people wait until they start to see these resting wrinkles before they seek Botox treatment (and that’s ok), but our advice is to get ahead of it and use Botox as a preventative treatment. There isn’t a one-age-fits-all here. The formation of resting lines can begin quite early for some (excessive sun exposure, genetics, etc) and not for others. Let us help you decide when the time is right!

So while we have “all the things” in our toolbox to turn up your glow, let us not forget our first love. Due to its versatile applications, Botox will always be one of our favorite ways to quickly and painlessly turn up your look, and prevent wrinkles from ever even forming.
