Perfect NAD+ IVs
The ‘love your perfect’ philosophy of PFAM is about creating an all inclusive glow that encompasses radiant skin, self-confidence, and a healthy brain among other things. Perfect faces are really an expression of inner perfect that goes much deeper than the skin.
Nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) is one of the most essential coenzymes in the body, critical for a number of metabolic processes. While NAD is a natural substance created by the body, production slows as we age and this deficiency can lead to fatigue, brain fog, depression, memory loss, impaired digestion, and accelerated aging of the skin.
By supplementing NAD through painless placement of an IV and administration of intravenous hydration, the Perfect NAD IV can:
- Improve brain health, memory, focus, cognition and clarity
- Increase energy levels and boost metabolism
- Slow down the aging process and restore youthful appearance to the skin
- Support recovery and function of muscles and improve athletic performance
- Reverse the effects of aging by preventing and repairing damage to the DNA to improve overall longevity
While NAD+ is critical for hundreds of metabolic processes in the body, perhaps the most important is how it is intimately involved in the cycling and restoration of ATP (adenine triphosphate), which is crucial for every energy-requiring process in the cell.
The human body naturally produces NAD+ but production and supply can be affected by a number of factors such as aging, stress (both psychological and physical) and illness. NAD+ IV therapy delivers this coenzyme directly to the bloodstream, where it is then taken up and used. NAD levels can typically remain elevated for 1-3 weeks following a treatment, depending, of course, on the amount infused and the individual’s stress.
How Can NAD+ Help
By middle age, our NAD+ levels have plummeted to half that of our youth. In mouse models of disease and aging, increased levels of NAD+ have been found to suppress age-associated weight gain, enhance energy metabolism and physical activity, improve insulin sensitivity, improve eye function, improve mitochondrial metabolism and prevent age-linked changes in gene expression. Repleting NAD+ levels in mice has also been shown to rescue female fertility secondary to reproductive aging.
While there is relatively less evidence for the utility and efficacy of NAD+ supplementation in humans, interest is high and good literature is beginning to accumulate. Presently, studies have found increasing NAD+ can Increase aerobic capacity, increase muscle insulin sensitivity in pre diabetic women and alter body composition in healthy obese patients. Importantly, we know that oral supplementation to increase NAD+ levels is safe and well tolerated, as is direct infusion of NAD+ intravenously.
Anecdotally, NAD+ infusions are an excellent way to get a tired mind and body back on track. Patients report having heightened and sustained energy levels in addition to experiencing increased athletic performance. Patients have also reported increased mental clarity and focus along with decreased fatigue.
What To Expect
For your first appointment, expect to be in the office for around 90 to 120 minutes. The session can take place any time of the day. It is a good idea to bring some form of entertainment (book, iPad, headphones, etc) to the office.
During the infusion, some patients have reported a mild tightening of the chest, some minor nausea, stomach ache and perhaps a headache. You may feel all or none of these. All of the symptoms associated with the infusion stop almost immediately upon stopping the infusion, and their severity can be decreased by slowing the infusion down.
Once therapy is complete, your IV is removed and you are free to leave the office. There is no special post infusion regimen to which one must adhere. Effects can be noticeable right away for some, while others may notice in the following days. Depending on dose, the effect can last anywhere from 1-4 weeks. NAD is safe to repeat even on a weekly basis if needed.
