The Need to Know on Radiofrequency Microneedling

‘Next Level’ Microneedling at PFAM is here: radiofrequency microneedling. We love it, we swear by it, we live for it!

From fine lines and wrinkles, to thin and sagging skin, microneedling is one of our go-to treatments for its collagen stimulating and elastin boosting properties. Although microneedling is not new (this treatment has a fascinating history that dates back decades), there are new, state of the art medical devices taking traditional microneedling to the next level of perfect with radiofrequency (RF) microneedling.

Radiofrequency Microneedling

What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Very similar to conventional microneedling, radiofrequency microneedling uses a device to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. As needles make these tiny punctures, the skin’s natural healing process is stimulated, causing collagen production to increase and causing the skin to thicken and firm (hello glowy, youthful skin!).

The part that makes radiofrequency microneedling so unique and powerful is that the needle punctures are not only stimulating the skin, they are also serving as a delivery system for radiofrequency energy to reach deep layers of the skin. The targeted delivery of radiofrequency energy into the dermis amplifies production of collagen and elastin (on top of what microneedling alone can do). Radiofrequency energy also heats the deeper layers of skin, enhancing skin tightening, and leading to refined structure at the surface.

Best Use Cases for Radiofrequency Microneedling

Radiofrequency microneedling is proven to be an effective treatment for fine lines, wrinkles, scarring (from acne, injury, or surgery), stretch marks, and loose or sagging skin (talking to you aging necks!). But the question (that we all have when we’re learning about radiofrequency microneedling) remains.

“In what situation would I choose radiofrequency over traditional microneedling?”

  • Wrinkle Rejuvenation - Because the radiofrequency energy creates additional collagen and elastin production, AND tightens foundational layers of skin, radiofrequency microneedling tends to be a more effective choice for smoothing noticeable wrinkles. Additionally, since the radiofrequency is delivered past the end of the needle, the top layer of skin remains minimally disturbed while still receiving maximum benefit.
  • Scar Healing - All scars, as well as tough or damaged skin, can be dramatically improved with radiofrequency microneedling. Waves of radiofrequency help to break up the scar matrix, while the added collagen helps to heal, tighten, and smooth the treated area. PFAM providers can also focus radiofrequency energy specifically on the scar tissue for optimal results.
  • Special Treatment - Each of us has different skin dreams, and of course unique skin to begin with. In other words, we all have our own perfect and at PFAM we believe skincare treatments should reflect that. When it comes to radiofrequency microneedling, we can completely customize the treatment with needle depth and radiofrequency intensity for results ranging from subtle glow to skin transformation! This treatment can also be customized with the addition of PRP or PRF to enhance results and take collagen stimulation through the roof.
